Indian Navy at colaba(Facts,Secrets unfolded)
Hi All,
wuuuuuuuuuuunnn….. It was Navy ship horn blowing last weekend.
We along my freinds..went to a visit Navy docyard.. Let me tell u first the place is in colaba located south of mumbai. As on the way to it initail excitement building up , the time we reached the lions gate(it is named so),the entrance it almost doubled on seeing the navy officers in their cool white and trademark navy blue uniform.
We had been invited by one of my college time classmate. He is sub lieutenant there. On seeing him on the gate in uniform.. i began wondering abt him , as in college he used to be guy nn his own with few freinds mostly a left out.. with only frieds in our group.. no one of us ever tht that he wuld make to defence, due to his unconventional ways… not focussed either on studies or anything related to career though we were awre of his potential..we were lil comprehend.. basically a shy guy with interests in chess.. computers.. and little in gyming [:D],ppl make fun of him. But here he was standing tall, confident and with his own car Gr8 i said.
We all occupied the little maruti 800 and slowly moved into the traffic less roads to the ship named viraat (A big ship used to carry aircrafts and torpedos before it was decommissioned bought by india from britishers) now converted to a standstill musuem. For those who have not seen it actually, just to give its stastics it is about 150 m in length and 60-70 m broad. As we went inside we saw the ppl saluting each other. I asked abt the way they salute and he showed the way a different one than army or aircraft as all have different ways.. the navy’s is shortest one. We went inside to find tht there were a lots of photos. all very old some dates back before our independence.. with all yesteryears prime minister and president. Models of other ships of indian fleet were there. Now whats a fleet– IT IS combination distinct war ships typically a carrier, destroyer, the navy have .
We moved on to come across a series of war Hathiyaars.. the arms like bullet, rifles, missiles, torpedos, sea diving suits armoury of copters.. the honour medals for bravery in defence , the models of indian navy operations was glorious. As afternoon.. the inside was hot and humid we went on to see the inside hospital with engine room . Lastly we moved on to see the top.. which was huge space for aircrafts landing . A clean runaway with a space u can definetly play.. basketball, volleyball, etc. We staeted to click a pic but stopped by an official who adanced terrificly frigtening one of our female freind. We then saw a diff kind of flag which was like a white rectangle flag with red strips crossing each other perpendicularly from center. and our indian flag at the top rectangle out of 4 rec. We were statnding at the edge just imagining the sailing speed in livecondition as we had seen in the titanic .
As it was afternoon we tht to move on and have lunch only to satisfy the hunger we had developed then forgot due to excitement. The officer offered us a snack break as a quick option to escape hunger..and then we drove back to the ultimate machine i always had dreamt of being inside… IT was none other than the fascinating , impressive sight of a ::SUBMARINE:: . The state of art equipment that we saw made us amazed to go into the secretive missions we have seen in movies of james bond, world war etc. now we were there .. on the board. Wow… the slender but a long ad big as we had not thought it earlier it was floating on the surface. As india has 2 kinds of subamrine one is british, another is german. We were on the surface of british submarine the battrey were on the charge. i thought i shuld go inside see the secret palce on how ppl reside and work i asked my freind and he said that w’ll go we all excited went inside from a big ladder and then found that upper orifice of the sandwiched made of submarine. we moved into the the dining room cool it ws having TV and a cool hindi movie was playing we dined on chips, mad angles etc with cool sip of orange squash . We got a pungent smell of hydrogen, unable to resist it, an office r told us that if only the % of H2 will increase beyond 2% the ship will explode .. we were really scared. We quickly finished the chips.. and began exploring the interiors to see the every facility of sleeping, playing, toilets etc… was exquisite. Moving on we saw the torpedo room from where they launch missiles once the target is in range, there were 8 torpedos fully loaded.
The guy then started telling about their mission they are generally out for weeks.. for war patrol, practising the rounds inside the sea. They secretly monitor the ships of neighbouring countries, their fleet or ships movements so to keep eye on them and take their position at the time of holocast. This was amazing just imagine a guy inside a submarine.. travelling inside the sea monitoring targets trough periscope.. aquatic life is gr8. But how esy it seems its s tough job… and u need to be extreme fit to execute ur duty.
Well we then saw a lot of tecnology related to navigation and monitoring which i cant reveal. We then came up and were sweating .. just breathe of fresh air brought us back to life. We took some memorable..pics with the officer. We then moved to 2nd submarine.. initially we were reluctant to go inside as it is very conjusted , where you have hardly place to move arounfd freely. But tht to give it a try only t found the much better architecture inside.. german as we know are pioneers.. in U-boats.. as they call the submarine. Taking a quick walk we cam outside … and finally out of the gate we thank him for the lovely visit of us. GR& experience…
